In association with the Grant County Detention Center

Literacy Link Leamos has been teaching groups at GCDC since 2010.
We have a long association with the Grant County Detention Center, and have offered foundational literacy courses to all detainees weekly since 2010.
R.I.S.E.
Detainees who are within six months of release are eligible to apply for R.l.S.E., a program that helps them with the practical support they need to integrate back into the community.
Literacy Link has traditionally worked with R.I.S.E. to offer literacy and GED services and tutoring for anyone who has recently been released from the Grant County Detention Center.
New Initiative in 2026
Literacy Link is now able to tutor individual students at the jail once they join R.I.S.E. These students are able to meet in small groups of two to four with both a math and language arts tutor to get a head start on studying for their GED. Once they are released, they continue — often with these same tutors — independently.
High-Low Books
In our group classes, we were asked for books that are written for adults in more basic language. These are called “high-low books”, and Literacy Link is investing funds to supply these books to the GCDC library. This fosters a love of reading and allows detainees to improve their skills.
