Love Your Library 2010 “The World at your Fingertips”
Get ready to explore the world and enjoy an international flair at the ninth annual premier family literacy event in Grant County. The fun-filled family day will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010, from 9:30 to 12:30. Chair of the event Linda Ferrara and her committee are planning many fun activities for all ages including games, crafts, entertainment, bingo, singing, storytelling, a new free book for everyone, prizes and refreshments. Free replacement passports (library cards) will be available during the event. Bringing to us fiddle and accordion tunes from around the world will be AlmaZazz.
Do you like to decorate? We will be putting up simple decorations from 2 to 4 pm on Friday, Feb. 5th. Come join the fun! Lots of volunteers are needed during the event. If you can work for all the day or just a couple of hours, please contact the LLL office. We will also need lots of cookies!
We appreciate the library housing our program’s office and giving us priority use of tutoring space. Our annual Love Your Library Day is one way we show our appreciation to them.

We Appreciate their Support! Literacy Link – Leamos has recently received grants and donations from the Town & Country Garden Club, the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, Walmart Foundation, Wells Fargo, the McCune Charitable Foundation, and local individuals. We appreciate their support which is enabling us to make a difference in our community.
WIC Outreach
Throughout the month of February, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays we are meeting with families receiving assistance through the WIC Program and allow them to select three Golden books. This will give us an opportunity to talk with a lot of people about Literacy Link – Leamos and the tutoring services we have available. Did you know that ‘word of mouth’ is our best publicity tool? Call the office today if this is a project that with which you would like to be involved. A Note from Michelle Y prospero año nuevo….. How long does the “holiday season” last for you? Mine stretches from Thanksgiving through a birthday in the middle of January— and with the Cowboys looking good, maybe until the Super Bowl! We wrapped up 2009 with a Scrabble funfest at our holiday open house where the achievements of learners and volunteers were recognized. Books were given to the children of Silver schools and childcare centers before their holiday break. 2010 has had a firecracker start with 16 volunteers attending a great in-service facilitated by Karen Bryan on learning styles and experienced tutors sharing basics of tutoring. LLL Board President Caroline Baldwin spoke briefly about the roots of our literacy program. Hang on to your hats! Michelle
